Feathers color research on duck nutrition
Visiting undergraduate researcher Alison Ossip-Klein spent the summer analyzing the wing feathers of northern pintail ducks and mallards to find out if there is a possible link between nutrient intake, feather color, and fitness in these species. She has been working with the Kevin McGraw laboratory at ASU through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) fellowship funded by the federal government and administered by the School of Life Sciences.

Students think outside the box with physical therapy project
Dwight Schaeffer, a Valley physical therapist, isn’t the only one who recognizes the value of the Advanced Technology Innovation Center, (ATIC), and the center's undergraduate student researchers from the College of Technology and Innovation at ASU. The ATIC facilitates science and technology collaborations between businesses and ASU entities for research, design and development of new products or concepts, and undergraduates play a significant role in the center's success.

ASU engineering student goes international
ASU environmental engineering major Nathan Dunkin spent 13 weeks this past summer working in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. As an intern for Stanley Consultants, an international engineering, environmental and construction services company, Dunkin worked on an expansion project for the Abu Dhabi International Airport, helping design the water and electrical utility systems for a new terminal, and was a civil inspector and assistant to the project manager for a cooling plant for the city of Abu Dhabi.

The Doctor and the Shaman
Joshua Niska (class of '10) always knew that he wanted to be a doctor. In 2008, he spent a month in Ecuador on a research trip sponsored by Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. During that trip, Niska discovered that his conception of what it actually means to be a doctor was in need of radical reconstruction. Niska is a biochemistry major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a 2009 Barry M. Goldwater Scholar. He does laboratory research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix. But the trip to Santo Urco, Ecuador opened his eyes to an entirely different world.

ASU undergrads display research work at symposium
Arizona State University undergraduate students will again showcase their research in biotechnology, alternative energy sources, robotics, and a wide range of engineering and science fields at the 10th semi-annual Fulton Undergraduate Research Initiative (FURI) Symposium from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 20.
